A Romantic Day in Zhuhai with Your Dog

A Romantic Day in Zhuhai with Your Dog

In Zhuhai, you can spend a special Chinese New Year and experience a truly romantic journey. Traveling to Zhuhai is something well worth doing. The sea lies right beside the city, and the breeze comes in from the ocean.

If you bring your dog to Zhuhai, you can spend an unforgettable day like this — and your dog can be part of the whole experience.

Morning
Start from the Love Post Office

By the seaside along Zhuhai’s Lover’s Road, there is a very special little place called the Love Post Office.

A red house, a white lighthouse, and a quiet stretch of coastline.
It faces the sea, with the beach and waves just beside it.

Many people who travel to Zhuhai stop here for a while.

The meaning of the Love Post Office is actually very simple:
write a letter to someone you miss.

You can buy a postcard here, write down how you feel in the moment, and send it out with a special postmark.

Some people write to a loved one far away.
Some write to their future selves.

Others simply write down a small memory from their journey.

Like us, traveling to Zhuhai with our dog.

Sitting for a while on the beach near the Love Post Office is something both Xiongben and I really enjoy.

From here you can see the wide open sea.
When you look up, there are also beautiful clouds drifting across the sky.

The sea in Zhuhai is quite unique, because this is where rivers meet the ocean.
Sometimes the water may look a little cloudy, but on clear days the sea is truly beautiful.

Deep blue and calm.

Sitting on the beach and watching the sea is a very relaxing thing to do.

You can also buy freshly opened coconuts nearby.
The coconut water is sweet and refreshing.

With the sea breeze blowing and the gentle sound of the waves in your ears,
time seems to slow down.

Afternoon
Walk slowly along Lover’s Road

After leaving the Love Post Office, continue walking along Lover’s Road.

Lover’s Road is almost the most iconic seaside road in Zhuhai.
The sea is on one side, and the city is on the other.

Many people come here to walk, ride bicycles, or go for a slow jog.

As you keep walking forward, you will see Zhuhai’s most famous statue  the Zhuhai Fisher Girl.

She stands between the sea and the rocks, holding a bright pearl high in both hands,
as if she has just lifted it from the depths of the ocean.

There is actually a legend behind the Fisher Girl.

Long ago, the youngest daughter of the Dragon King of the South China Sea was fascinated by life in the human world. She came to the shore and transformed into a fisher girl.

She lived like the local fishermen, weaving nets, catching fish, and singing by the sea.

Later, she fell in love with a kind fisherman.

But because of a misunderstanding, the fisherman once doubted her identity.
To prove her sincerity, the fisher girl removed the pearl that symbolized her life and gave it to him.

Once the pearl left her body, she turned into a stone statue and remained by the sea forever.

Later, people built this statue at Xianglu Bay to commemorate her.

The pearl in her hands symbolizes light and hope,
and also represents love and protection.

The sea breeze moves across the coastline of Zhuhai.
People walk here, taking photos and enjoying the view.

And the Fisher Girl still stands there,
quietly watching over the sea.

Evening
Go to Yeli Island and wait for the sunset

Continuing along Lover’s Road, you will arrive at Yeli Island.

If your dog is on a leash or sitting in a small stroller, you can take them for a walk around the island together.

On a clear day, the scenery here feels like something out of a Hayao Miyazaki animation.

The sea is quiet.
The sky feels high and open.

You can slowly walk around the island,
or find a place to sit and wait for the sunset.

When the sun slowly sinks into the sea, the entire sky turns orange.

This is the gentlest moment of the day in Zhuhai.

Night
Go see the Zhuhai Opera House (Sun & Moon Shells)

At night, you can go see the Sun & Moon Shells in Zhuhai.

This is the Zhuhai Opera House, located right beside Yeli Island.

When the lights come on in the evening,
two giant “shells” stand by the sea.

It is very beautiful.

Many people come here to have dinner
or watch a movie.

The seaside at night is very quiet.
The lights reflect on the surface of the sea.

The whole city feels gentle and comfortable.

Zhuhai has so many great foods to try. If you visit, you can choose from oyster chicken hot pot, Cantonese dim sum, Chaoshan beef hot pot, or fish sashimi (Yusheng). Each one represents a different part of Guangdong’s food culture.

1/ Oyster Chicken Hot Pot

Oyster chicken hot pot is a very popular dish in Zhuhai.

The soup base is usually made with chicken, ginger slices, and a light broth. The chicken is cooked first, and fresh oysters are added afterward.

The rich flavor of the chicken combines with the fresh taste of the sea from the oysters, making the soup very flavorful.

The oysters themselves have a natural ocean sweetness and a slight salty taste. After cooking, the meat becomes plump, soft, and juicy.

2/Cantonese Dim Sum (Yum Cha)

If there is a soul of Cantonese food culture, it is dim sum and tea, often called Yum Cha.

Cantonese dim sum is not just breakfast — it is a lifestyle. People sit together, drink tea, and slowly enjoy many small dishes.

The flavors are usually light but very fresh, and great care is put into the ingredients and preparation.

3/Chaoshan Beef Hot Pot

Zhuhai is close to the Chaoshan region, so Chaoshan-style beef hot pot is very popular here.

Unlike other hot pots, the broth is usually clear soup or beef bone broth, and the focus is on freshly sliced beef.

Different cuts of beef are served separately, and the meat is cooked in the hot soup for only a few seconds before eating.
This keeps the beef very tender, juicy, and full of natural flavor.

4/Fish Sashimi (Yusheng)

Fish sashimi, known locally as Yusheng, is a traditional Guangdong-style raw fish dish that is especially popular in the Pearl River Delta region.

The fish is sliced very thinly, and it is mixed with many ingredients such as ginger, peanuts, sesame, oil, and soy sauce.

The taste is fresh, light, and slightly sweet, and the dish requires very skilled knife work.

There is also a traditional saying:

“The more you mix the fish sashimi, the more prosperity it brings.”

It symbolizes good luck and a thriving future.

Sometimes romance doesn’t have to be something grand.

It doesn’t always need flowers or ceremonies,
and it doesn’t have to be a particularly unforgettable event.

Many times, romance is simply walking slowly along the seaside
with someone you love
and a little dog beside you.

And suddenly you realize
that the moments you never want to forget
are rarely the dramatic ones,
but these quiet, gentle pieces of everyday life.

An evening in a seaside city,
a freshly opened coconut,
a sunset by the ocean,
and a little dog who has walked a very long way with you.
