If you love the sea too, Huizhou in Guangdong is truly one of those places you’ll want to return to again and again.
Its beaches are not the kind you visit just once for a few photos. They are the kind you remember afterward the sea breeze, the soft sand, the sunrise, the sunset glow, the fireworks at night, and those quiet, unhurried moments of simply standing by the shore and doing nothing. The coastline in Huizhou is honestly so beautiful.

Huizhou has many beaches, and each one has its own feeling. Some have clear water and soft, fine sand. Some are quiet and scenic. Some are perfect for sunrise walks and collecting shells. Some become lively at night, when people gather by the sea and set off fireworks.
Huizhou is also quite pet-friendly. Pets are welcome at many beaches and even in some malls. It is best to keep them on a leash or in a stroller when needed, but on the beach dogs can often run more freely and enjoy the open space.
1. Xunliao Bay: clean water, soft sand, and blue-green sea
Xunliao Bay is known for its clean, beautiful water and its soft, fine sand. On sunny days, the sea takes on a bright blue-green color, and the whole shoreline feels calm and healing. It is a lovely place to bring your dog for a walk and some playtime. You can leave little paw prints in the sand, play frisbee together on the beach, or let your dog enjoy the shallow water.

The area around Jiuming Yuhai and Ganhai Park is especially nice for a slow walk.
Jiuming Yuhai is sometimes called a “little Kamakura” by visitors because the coastal road leading toward the sea has a romantic atmosphere that reminds people of Japan. It is a very popular place for photos.

If you keep walking, you will eventually reach the small white chapel often compared to the one in Aranya. Sometimes you may even see couples taking wedding photos there. If you continue farther, you’ll arrive at Ganhai Park. Bring a small bucket and shovel if you can find little fish or tiny crabs there. It is also a lovely place to wait for sunset.

Or you can simply walk along the shore, or do absolutely nothing at all and just sit by the sea. The feeling here is not about excitement or crowds. It is about quiet companionship and complete relaxation. In Xunliao Bay, you can really experience what it feels like to fully unwind. Buy a cup of coffee, listen to the waves, watch the sun go down what could be more peaceful than that?

2. Shuangyue Bay
Shuangyue Bay is also one of Huizhou’s best-known bays. The first time we went, we were surprised to see cows grazing by the sea. The whole scene felt so unusual and so cute. The sea, the cows, and the wind all coming together is something I still remember. Very few beaches leave you with that kind of impression.

One place I especially recommend is Lion Island.
Before we went, we stopped by a supermarket and picked up some cold side dishes and sesame flatbread, thinking we would have a simple picnic by the sea. It turned out to be such a great plan. Just finding a comfortable spot to sit, feeling the ocean breeze, looking out at the water, and eating something simple already felt so satisfying. If you download a tide chart in advance, you can also time it to catch the sunset. It is also a great place to bring your dog. The area feels open, and dogs can run around freely on the beach. You can tell they absolutely love it.

Another place I really recommend is Turtle Bay, which is close to Shuangyue Bay and only about a 30-minute drive away.
This is the only sea turtle nature reserve in China, and also the country’s last remaining sea turtle nesting ground, which already makes it a very special place. The whole area is surrounded by rocky shores, so swimming is not allowed. Because of that, the water looks especially clean and clear, with a beautiful transparent blue color. Even though there is an entrance fee, I still think it is absolutely worth visiting. The only downside is that dogs are not allowed, which is a bit of a pity.
As you walk along the coastal boardwalk, the blue sky, shoreline, rocks, and mountains all seem to blend together, and the whole view suddenly opens up in front of you. It is hard to describe that feeling in just one sentence. You just stand there, and somehow your mind starts to feel quieter and wider too. Sometimes the combination of mountains and sea really can heal you, and Turtle Bay is exactly that kind of place.

3.Xiaojing Bay
Xiaojing Bay is one of the most well equipped seaside bays in Huizhou. During the time we lived in Huizhou, this was where we stayed. One of the happiest parts of daily life was running along the Xiaojing Bay boardwalk, listening to the waves, and looking out at the sea. It always felt like life could not get much better than that.

During that time, I even lost 6 kilograms, but more importantly, I felt happy and healthy.During the time I lived by the sea, I made a lot of light meals and kept up with exercise and running, and my body really did start to feel much lighter.

At our home by the sea, I planted many kinds of flowers and made the balcony feel beautiful and full of life. Xiongben loved resting there. He would often sit with me, looking at the flowers, watching the sea, and keeping me company while I had tea. That period of life felt incredibly peaceful, easy, and comforting.

Compared with some other beaches, it usually feels less crowded here. The coastline is beautiful, the waves are gentle, and the sand is soft and fine, which makes it especially comfortable to walk on.

During holidays and festivals, the beach becomes much livelier. There are fireworks, camping, group gatherings, beach volleyball, and all kinds of water activities. Around the typhoon season, local fishermen also go out to gather seafood from the sea.By evening, the whole place takes on a different charm. Some people paint by the shore, while others sing and play drums.

Everyone has their own way of relaxing, and somehow it all feels equally easy and comfortable. There are bicycles and electric scooters available by the roadside, though I personally prefer just wandering freely along the beach. If you keep walking, you will eventually reach the commercial area, where there is a Sisyphus Bookstore, along with barbecue places, cafés, and all kinds of good food.

If you ever come to Xiaojing Bay, you should definitely try the local seafood. There are many seafood stalls and casual seafood restaurants here. You should also drink a fresh coconut, and you really should go swimming in the sea at least once because the waves here are so gentle. Or you can rent a beach chair and simply spend the day slowly, enjoying a beautiful holiday by the water.

This place is also especially good for dogs. You can bring them along and let them run around freely. You can play beach volleyball or frisbee together, and even have barbecue by the sea. Of course, anything for dogs should be plain and without seasoning.

Every time Xiongben left the house, it only took a short walk to reach the beach. We would hold him in our arms and stand quietly on the viewing platform, looking out at the sea. He would watch the people passing by, and that feeling was pure happiness.
If we ever have the chance to return to Huizhou, Xiaojing Bay is definitely where we would want to live again.

4.Daya Bay is truly a hidden gem by the sea that feels both peaceful and free to enjoy.
It has an eastern shore and a western shore. The eastern side is quieter and great for taking photos, while the western side connects to a coastal boardwalk that feels especially nice for walking or cycling.

Many people even call it the “Maldives of Guangdong.” The beach stretches for about 1,800 meters, with wide and gentle sands that feel almost powdery, and the water is beautifully clear. You can also try jet skiing here, and the natural rocks along the shore make the scenery feel even more layered and beautiful.
Daya Bay is located in the southeastern part of Huizhou and is also very close to Shenzhen.

I especially recommend starting from Gold Coast and cycling along the Wushantou Greenway for 5.8 kilometers. Along the way, you pass through stretches of blooming flame trees and bottlebrush flowers. When the sea breeze comes through, it feels incredibly refreshing, and in the distance you can see fishing boats heading out to sea. There is something about riding between flowers and the ocean that makes the whole experience feel deeply relaxing.
This is also a wonderful place to bring your dog.

The coastline is stunning, and you can run along the shore with your dog and step barefoot into the waves together. The waves here are stronger and more dramatic, which gives the sea a bold and beautiful energy. It looks amazing in photos, and it is also just a fun place to spend time. Camping by the sea is possible here too, and if the weather is good, it is the kind of place where spending an entire day feels completely worth it.

There is also Qingquan Ancient Temple nearby, a temple that was built during the Qing Dynasty.

I will not go into it too much this time, but we can talk more about it next time.
If you are looking for a place where you can enjoy the sea, take a walk, and go cycling, Daya Bay is definitely worth visiting.
